LONG ISLAND’S HISTORICAL VENUES CREATE MEMORABLE MEETINGS SITES

HAUPPAUGE, NY-(December 21, 2005)- Well-known for its sandy white beaches, recreational boating, and top-rated golf courses, Long Island is also rich in history and features fabulous meetings venues in everything from gorgeous “Gold Coast” mansions perched high on the bluffs of the Sound, to the exciting Belmont Racetrack, celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2005.

Following are some of the historic venues available to meetings and event planners:

Oheka Castle

On 22-acres of well-manicured property, with the Cold Spring Country Club and golf on the premises, this actual castle has 26 rooms and suites and over 10,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, including a grand ballroom, library and dining room. An indoor pool and jogging paths are on the premises. This exclusive setting combines period furnishings with modern comforts and gourmet dining with custom-design menus for groups. The castle has a business center services and audio visual materials on premises.

De Seversky Center

With dramatic entryway and elegant furnishings, this building is also used for the culinary arts program at NY Institute of Technology and has 10,665 sq. ft. of meeting space and gourmet dining. Near great golf, the historic summer home of Theodore Roosevelt, and the upscale shopping at the “Fifth Ave.” of Long Island, at Manhasset’s “Miracle Mile,” this mansion has old world grace and charm.

Vanderbilt Museum
In the hills of the exclusive North Shore, where the Gold Coast mansions immortalized in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby,” overlook the waters of the Long Island Sound, is the Vanderbilt Museum. This historic, Spanish Revival mansion provides indoor space for intimate events, while larger events are accommodated in the Spanish courtyard or in an oversized, dramatic semi-permanent tent. Located near the charming harbor front villages of Northport and Cold Spring Harbor, the historic Huntington Village and Sunken Meadow State Golf Course overlooking the Sound, this mansion also has a planetarium and “sky theater” on site, as well as an extensive marine and wildlife exhibit featuring some of the most exotic creatures found in the ocean and on land.

Harrison Conference Center at Glen Cove
This Georgian-style mansion is located 30-miles east of Manhattan on 55 acres on the North Shore of Long Island. With 196-rooms, racquetball courts, tennis courts, basketball courts, indoor and outdoor pools, spa, bowling alley and five dining areas, this facility provides plenty to do before and after meetings. It has 23,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, 30 meeting rooms, and meeting equipment and support services.

Montauk Manor
For a true retreat from the everyday, Montauk Manor at the end” of Long Island’s South Fork is a 1920s Tudor style resort both picturesque and tranquil, located high on a hill overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. This all-suite resort features indoor/outdoor pool, Jacuzzi, saunas, spa, Bocce court, and putting green.
