LONG ISLAND CONVENTION & VISITORS BUREAU AND SPORTS COMMISSION NAMES NEW DIRECTOR OF MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS

HAUPPAUGE, NY- (May 19, 2005) - The Long Island Convention & Visitors Bureau and Sports Commission (LICVB&SC) announced the appointment of Kristen Matejka to the position of Director of Marketing and Communications.

As part of the bureau’s senior management team, Ms. Matejka will work closely with Director of Sales and Sports Development, Regina Zahra and President Moke McGowan in the formulation of the bureau’s strategic marketing and sales initiatives. She will be responsible for the implementation of a pro-active public and press relations plan to generate positive off-island editorial coverage highlighting Long Island’s tourism attributes.

“We’re delighted to have someone with Kristen’s editorial skills and experience as well as her Long Island hospitality and tourism industry knowledge,” said Bureau President Moke McGowan. “She brings not only an intimate understanding of the editorial side of press relations, but the ability to gain positive press coverage of the Island’s many and diverse visitor products.”

Ms. Matejka has over 15 years marketing and editorial experience covering the hotel, hospitality and retail industries, as well as local news and events.
She most recently served as a senior editor and an editorial director at HOTEL BUSINESS, a leading hospitality industry magazine covering hotel management, marketing and business development. Prior to that, she acted as a senior editor at HOMEWORLD BUSINESS, a national publication covering consumer purchasing trends and retail merchandising.

Ms. Matejka also covered local Long Island events in positions at area newspapers.
She is a graduate of New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury, receiving a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts degree with a major in photo/journalism.

The Long Island Convention & Visitors Bureau and Sports Commission (LICVB &SC) was established in 1979 as a marketing arm for the destination’s nearly $5 billion travel and tourism industry.
